WWII Luftwaffe WRIST COMPASS AK39 for paratrooper This item is WWII german Luftwaffe original wrist compass AK39 (Armbandkompass= AK – “Wristband Compassâ€).This compass was worn on the wrist by German aircraft pilots and was intended for use in orienting themselves in the case of a bail out or crash landing (during flight, the aircraft’s inherent built-in compass was the only thing necessary). The rotating top bezel is made of heavy, clear plastic (general yellowing due to age, but still clear); there is no leak anywhere – the fluid inside the compass compartment is present, the needle moves freely. The bottom casement mount (with the wrist straps) is made of black bakelite plastic. The clear permanent bottom panel has a red center line. The wristband is black leather. There is no trace of oxidation to the buckle. Compass is mising celluloid, wich was clearly marked “AK39â€, with a re-order (Anfordernummer) number: “Fl. 23235-1â€. The item condition is great.
